Royal Visit

Date : 11-05-2017

Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, arrived by helicopter to our Benham Sports Centre to commemorate the work of Northamptonshire Trampoline Gymnastics Academy (NTGA) and their Olympic medal-winning coach, Tracy Whittaker-Smith.

On Monday 8th May, we were delighted to welcome HRH The Princess Royal, Princess Anne to our King's Park site where she was treated to a display from NTGA gymnasts and Great Britain Olmypian Kat Driscoll, she also met special needs coaches and young people from the Academy.

Princess Anne unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark her visit and, in a speech to the gymnasts, said, 'Thank you for performing today and for the example you set for other young people. Events like this at this centre are an inspiration for others and it's wonderful to be here to celebrate it with you.'

Her Royal Highness then took time to talk with some of the young people who had been performing before touring some of the facilities at our King's Park site and enjoying a buffet lunch.  Before departing Princess Anne was interested in talking with NAYC Youth Group leaders about their work with young people in Northamptonshire, NTGA members and NAYC staff.

NAYC Chief Executive, John Whittaker said, 'We are thrilled that HRH The Princess Royal agreed to visit us to celebrate the success of Northamptonshire young people and our amazing facilities at King's Park.'

Everyone enjoyed such a special visit!
